When families book family photos in Perth, one of the first things they say to me is:
“My kids are wild.”
“They won’t listen.”
“We’re terrible at photos.”
And honestly?
That’s exactly how it should be.
The most meaningful photographs don’t come from perfectly behaved children standing still and smiling at the camera. They come from connection, the way your child runs up to you to be thrown up to the clouds, the way you brush hair from their face, the way they run barefoot through the grass and turn around to see if your following.
As a Perth family photographer, my sessions are slow, relaxed, and completely child-led.
Your children don’t need to be told how to stand, where to look or even when to smile.
They just need to be themselves.

One of the biggest worries parents have before their family photoshoot in Perth is behaviour.
But the truth is, children were never meant to sit still and smile for an hour.
They move.
They explore.
They climb.
They laugh.
And those moments are exactly what tell your family’s story.
During your session, I’ll guide you with gentle prompts instead of poses. You might hold your child close, whisper something silly to them, walk together through the field, or simply sit together and let them climb into your lap.
The magic happens in those in-between moments.
Another common worry I hear is:
“I have nothing to wear.”
That’s why I offer a client wardrobe filled with neutral, timeless pieces that photograph beautifully in natural light.
For family photos in places like Point Perron, Jarrahdale fields, or the Perth Hills, I recommend:
• soft neutrals
• textured fabrics
• flowing dresses
• linen and knits
• earthy tones
These colours work beautifully with the natural landscapes around Perth.
Most importantly, choose clothing that allows you to move, cuddle, and be comfortable.

If you look through my work, you’ll notice something.
Very few people are staring into the camera.
That’s because I believe the most powerful photographs are about connection with each other.
Your children might be looking at you.
You might be kissing their forehead.
They might be climbing onto your back.
Those real interactions are what make images feel alive years later.
Some of my favourite locations for family photos in Perth include:
• Point Perron – beautiful rock formations to block out the wind if your after a beach photoshoot.
• Jarrahdale fields – long grass, big open areas, winter streams, Spring blooms, Warm golden light in summer and a barn to escape the winter rain or harsh sun.
• Perth Hills – forests, wide open spaces to run wild and free, and quiet nature settings.
These locations allow children the freedom to explore while we capture your story naturally.
The only thing you really need to bring to your session is this:
Your connection.
Hold your children close.
Laugh with them.
Let them run.
Let them be wild.
Because years from now, these are the photographs that will take you straight back to this season of life.
